The Genesis Chronology provides evidence that Abraham was probably never an idol worshiper. If you look at the listing close enough, you will notice that Abraham was 58 years old when Noah died! Which means that Abraham no doubt knew Noah well. The Bible says that Abraham’s father and grand father worshiped idols, but that does not mean that Abraham did. The previous two could have been influenced by their wives. The Bible contains many examples of righteous kings who’s sons were evil and worshiped idols, and the opposite. So just because someone is an idol worshiper does not mean that the son is. Abraham could have spent time with Noah and learned about the true God from him.

And Noah’s father was alive well before Adam died, so he probably knew Adam and Adam no doubt related the whole garden story to him, who then passed it on to Noah, then Abraham.

I have discovered in the Book Of Jubilees that my theory about Abraham is correct, Abraham Theory.

Part 2 The Genesis Chronology Explained

How I Got My Dates in the Genesis Chronology
You may be wondering where I got my dates in the Genesis Chronology; I thought it would be obvious but I guess it is not. Calling the first year of Earth “year 1” and Adam was not 1-years old until a year had passed; when Adam was 1 years old, the year was year 2. The following tells us that Seth was born in the year 131:

3 When Adam had lived 130 years, he had a son in his own likeness, in his own image, and he named him Seth. 4 After Seth was born, Adam lived 800 years and had other sons and daughters. 5 Altogether, Adam lived 930 years, and then he died. 6 When Seth had lived 105 years, he became the father of Enosh, Seth lived 807 years and had other sons and daughters. Altogether, Seth lived 912 years, and then he died. 9 When Enosh had lived 90 years, he became the father of Kenan. And after he became the father of Kenan, Enosh live 185 years and had other sons and daughters. 11 Altogether, Enosh lived 905 years, and then he died. 12 When Kenan had lived 70 years, he became the father of Mahalalel. . . . (Genesis 5:3-13)

From this we can figure the dates, since the Bible gives us a complete accounting from Adam to Jacob and the rest of the dates are gotten through back-dating.

But first I will explain more about the forward dating. Notice that in the above passage we can deduce that Adam was 395 years old when Mahalalel was born. And that Adam died in the year 931 because he lived 930 years. If we continue with this figuring, we will learn that Noah’s father, Lamech, was born in 875, which means that Noah’s father knew Adam personally because Adam did not die until 931. Lamech was 182 years old when Noah was born and the flood took place when Noah was 600 years old, therefore the flood must have taken place in 1657 After Creation.

Noah lived another 350 years after the flood because he lived a total of 950 years. The Bible gives us clear ages of when so and so was born and so there can be no doubt when Noah died and when Abraham was born.

Shem was 100 years old at the flood, and Shem was 102 years old when Arphaxed was born, making the year 1659 After Creation. Arphaxed was 35 years old when Shelah was born, Shelah was 30 years old when Eber was born, Eber was 34 years old when Peleg was born, Peleg was 30 years old when Reu was born, Reu was 32 years old when Serug was born, Serug was 30 years old when Nahor was born, Nahor was 29 years old when Terah was born, Terah was 70 years old when Abram was born.

All you have to do is simple math to figure out that if Noah live 350 years after the flood, then he died when Abraham was 58 years old.

Back-dating is similar, except that the Bible does not tell us how old Jacob was when Joseph was born, but it does tell us how old Joseph was when he became ruler of Egypt and that he ruled for 10 years before Jacob entered Egypt, [1] and it tells us how old Jacob was when he entered Egypt, therefore we can figure out how old Jacob was when Joseph was born. This type of back-dating can be done through Moses.

(Seven years of plenty, plus seven years of famine= 14 years, so Jacob entered Egypt when the famine was close to 1/2 over.)

7 Thoughts on “Genesis Chronology

  1. Jim Mathison on May 12, 2013 at 6:57 pm said:

    I figured out basically the same chronology of Genesis in A.M. years (Anno Mundi) as you did. It appeared to break off after Esau’s marriage, but like you say, the key to the puzzle was knowing that Jacob was 130 when Joseph was 39 (how do you get 40?) Another little difference was that I start out with year 0.

    Going a little further, I calculated up to 3555 A.M., to when Daniel is among the very first exiles to Babylon in the 3rd year of Jehoiakim, which scholars say corresponds to c.606 B.C. Here the biblical chronology finally breaks off for good.

    Acts 7:4 seems to be in conflict, because some take it to mean that Abram left for Canaan only after his father, Terah, died at the age of 205. However, the word “Now” from Gen 11:32 and 12:1 doesn’t necessarily mean “Right afterwards,” as can be seen in 36:1. Also, Abram moved around a lot and dwelt outside the land of Canaan for a long time (20:1, 21:34) before he finally settled inside Canaan (22:9) after having been willing to offer up Isaac. Thus, Acts 7:4 doesn’t really conflict with the chronology.

    Another potential problem is that Moses is said somewhere to be only three generations down the line from Levi, the brother of Jacob. If, as we say, Moses is born in 2588 A.M., then those few generations would need to cover about 400 biblical years, which is unrealistic. This problem is side-stepped by realizing that the term “son of” sometimes means “ancestor of,” as in 1 Chr 26:24 and 2Kg 16:7.

    Two questions: Do you know of any other potential conflicts between the biblical text and this chronology? And, are you aware that this chronology forms the basis for a rather startling pattern between the Book of Genesis and the rest of the Bible?

    God bless your efforts!

      Hello Jim,
      Thanks for this information. And, yes, I know of some other conflicts. Sir Robert Anderson in his book, The Coming Prince, first published in the
      late 1800s, said God’s time-clock stopped anytime the Jews were not in a
      proper relationship with God.

      “In 1 Kings 6:1 it says Solomon began to build the temple in the 480th
      year after the children of Israel came out of Egypt, which is not accurate
      on its face, but if you include all the years in which Israel was under judgment,
      then it accurately adds up to 573 years. Robert Anderson added up
      the times when the Israelites were enslaved to foreign powers: 8 years to
      the king of Mesopotamia, 18 years to Moab, 20 years to Canaan, 7 years
      to the Midianites, and 40 years to the Philistines; which equals 93.
      … and if 93 years be deducted from 573 years, the result is 480
      years. It is obvious, therefore, that the 480 years of the book of
      Kings from the Exodus to the temple is a mystic era formed by
      eliminating every period during which the people were cast off by
      God.” (Chapter 7)

      Mr. Anderson believes it means God’s time-clock will begin again when the Jews become a nation again, but the times when Israel were
      slaves did not refer to being away from Israel, because being slaves to a foreign power did not require removal from the land, and did not include
      removal. Only the Kings of Assyria and Babylon removed the Israelites. God’s time-clock stopped when the Jews rejected Messiah, and it will
      begin again only when a certain number of them accept Messiah, not all of them. Therefore, many will convert before the rest of Daniel’s 70 weeks can begin, which means they will convert before the start of the GT.

      A footnote in Mr. Anderson’s book says, “Judges 3:8, 14; 4:2, 3; 6:1; 13:1. The servitude of Judges 10:7, 9 affected only the tribes beyond Jordan,
      and did not suspend Israel’s national position.” This means that all of the Jews do not have to convert, only the Jews living in the land of Israel.

    For: Jim Mathison to support your re:

    Well done. May God bless you richly bless you for your diligent study, enjoy those things He has revealed to you per Deuteronomy 29:29, and Isaiah 46:9-10…Here are some things that may help.

    You have made this comment: “Another potential problem is that Moses is said somewhere to be only three generations down the line from Levi, the brother of Jacob.” *

    You have asked for help: Do you know of any other potential conflicts between the biblical text and this chronology?

    * This may help: See Gen. 29, and in vs. 34 you will discover Levi is Jacob’s 3rd son, not his brother; and, find Moses’ genealogy set forth in Exod. 6:16-20.

    You have made this statement: And, are you aware that this chronology forms the basis for a rather startling pattern between the Book of Genesis and the rest of the Bible?”

    Yes, you are “spot on”, for the Chronology is amazing in numerous ways from the first word forward.

    You remind me of: Deu 29:29 “The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law*” (i.e., Torah* = “teachings and instructions”)

    To support your continued study and work for God’s glory:

    1. God commanded Moses to write the first 5 books. Even though Moses was educated in Pharaoh’s household, Moses did not write the scriptures in Egyptian hieroglyphics. He wrote them in the original God-given master language from the Garden of Eden, i.e., the “holy tongue” aka “Hebrew.”

    (In Zephaniah 3:9, God promises to restore this pure language, and preceding the return of Jesus Christ, this phenomenon is occurring all over the world right now.)

    2. Pastor Mark Biltz of Elshaddaiministries.us was shown the VERY first Hebrew word of the bible reveals exactly who Jesus Christ is, His relation to God the Father, and that He will redeem mankind (all before the fall of Adam ! )

    3. Chuck Missler studied Hebrew and the righteous Jewish sages who obeyed God, and discovered a “Reader’s Digest” version of the Gospel in the genealogy of Noah in sequential, chronological order as follows: Look at the meanings of their names:

    Seth = Appointed
    Enosh = Mortal
    Cainan = Sorrow
    Mahalalel = The Blessed God
    Jared = Shall Come Down
    Enoch = Teaching
    Methuselah = His Death Shall Bring
    Lamech = The Despairing
    Noah = Rest and Comfort

    Together, these names reveal: “Man (is) appointed (to) mortal sorrow. The Blessed God shall come down teaching (that) His Death shall bring the despairing rest and comfort.”

    It is very exciting to see your scholarly work. Wishing you much success as you grow in God’s truth from the beginning:

    Amo 3:7 Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.

    Isa 46:10 Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:

    (e.g., Jesus Christ is revealed in the very first word of the scriptures in Gen 1; and His plan of salvation revealed in Noah’s genealogy in Gen 5, the end revealed in the beginning.)

  3. Nice to see someone else working on Bible Chronology. We seem to have much agreement. I would differ with you on the age Seth when Noah is 600. My calculation is that Japheth is the oldest and born when Noah was 500. Ham was born one year later and Seth was born two years after Japheth. Arphaxed is born 2 years after the start of the flood when Noah is 602 and Shem is 100. Check out my site at http://www.thesacredcalendar.com. I am curious where you got the 4115 BC start of creation. Are you aware that only lines up on a 364-Day calendar? On a solar calendar it is 8 days and 14 years later in October of 4101 BC. Contact me if you want to at a contact page on my web site. Would love to talk.

    • I believe I got the 4101 B.C. time from some Bible handbook, or Bible commentary, not sure which one. So it was not my own calculation, but as for the rest of the timeline, it is my own but there are a lot of others out there. I did this one back in the late 90s when the internet was still young. So I am sure there are a lot of others available now to compare with.

  4. Monday October 22-Heshvan 1, 4101 BC on the Gregorian-Hebrew solar calendar is the same date as Monday October 14 – Creation Day 1 on the 364-Day calendar described in Earth’s Sacred Calendar: The Dated Events of the Old Testament published in 2014 and can be seen at thesacredcalendar.com.
